Emerging Technology, Part 1

Facebook's timeline. You know, I never thought that a website could be one of the biggest emerging technologies of 2012.  It basically was saying stuff about how the owners of Facebook made their site  easily   accessible for all users. What surprised me the most was actually not from this article, but from personal use. Facebook decided to make a video chat on their website, similar to Skype. Facebook I can see making dramatic changes in the future, but hey, they got to keep up with other competing social networking sites!

Reflection: Online A

Technology is important because as this new generation moves forward, technology use increases as well.  Nowadays a normal person can't leave their house without their cell phone. Technology has changed in the last five years from being where everyone has a flip phone, to being everyone has an iPhone or a touch screen phone. I think technology within the next 5 years would be a lot of the same stuff, just the product or device would be a lot slimmer. For school work, I use a regular computer. For my personal use, I use my iPad mostly. I rarely use my computer at home nowadays. In the future i could use some of the tools i learned in Online A. Tools I could use for practical long life learning would be the image editing websites. Tools I think I wont ever use again might be my blogger, because it's not like it will turn into the next Facebook or anything. My favorite thing to create was my podcast on MyPlick. I thought that was cool how I was able to sync my own audio into a Power Point. Finally my least favorite thing to create was all tho blog posts that we had to do.

Flashcards

March 1st Podcast Post

I listened to a podcast about baseball, the MLB to be exact. I actually liked learning this way because i hate learning things from text, because I would rather learn from listening, and/or visual learning. I think people prefer podcast for the same reason I do, because they don't like reading information from text. The information is reliable, but after they say certain stats or something, they give their opinion on that certain subject area. All in all, i prefer pod casting.

Technology Article (Robot Dog)

A group called Boston Dynamics had created a dog like device that can throw any thing (within reason) a fairly large distance. This dog is for military use, so it wont harm any human beings during combat. This "dog" can lift things, and then wind up, and throw! In the video i watched, it launched a cinder block about 25 feet. imagine what this thing could do during war!

Vokki vs. Blabberize

In my opinion, Blabberize was the better recording website. Blabberize was also a funnier looking avatar, and less creepy avatar. But at least Vokki allowed you to customize your own avatar, and not just find a picture and make the jaw move. That's also the beauty of Blabberize, because you can literally take any picture, and make it talk! Vokki on the other hand, didn't really have many choices to make your avatar look like you.
So in other words, Blabberize is better than Vokki.

Tracking Theresa

In the video that I watched called "Tracking Theresa" was pretty interesting. the only information that Theresa was giving out was her screen name, which was "Theresa01" from there, the person found her email, and found her telephone number. just by plugging in the area code, he could find where her geographical location was.so within 20 minutes, the person found out alot of things about Theresa. next was to find the schools in that area. See, the guy already knew her age, and that meant she was in high school. He eventually  found out what her school was. So, what I learned from this is to not publicly display any personal information, as simple as a phone number.

The Movie Cyberbu//y

The movie, Cyber bully, on ABC was a eye opening movie. Taylor was getting bullied on this online network, and it was affecting her life. But, her best friend, Samantha, made a fake profile of a guy because she didn't like the guy Taylor was talking to. Samantha on her fake account said something bad about Taylor on this chat room, and that's where everything started. From there, people were saying bad things about her in the chat room. It made Taylor go into a depression, and even gotten to the point of almost killing herself, but was stopped by Samantha, the girl who started all this. A lot of kids go through this, and it needs to be stopped.

Netiquette

Netiquette is basically a set of rules for the online world. The word netiquette comes from the two words 'Etiquette' and 'Network'. Netiquette affects everybody that uses the internet. You don't want to go around starting Facebook fights everyday, because that's an example of poor netiquette. An example of good netiquette is if you have a problem with something somebody said online, send them a private message them, instead of just putting it out for everyone to see. Poor netiquette would also be not respecting other peoples privacy (sending them spam).

What's Legal?

Mp3 Music files have been out for a while, but finding the correct way to download the media is the hard part. File Sharing can be legal, but a lot of the websites out there violate copyright laws. You CAN make your own CD for yourself, but you may not distribute that CD to someone else. So if what you are getting seem too good to be true, it probably is. For the newest hit songs, you're going to have to pay for them. Don't plagiarize somebody else's work, because that is where you will get in trouble with the law. The sad thing is, you can go to prison for a longer period of time than what a killer goes there for.

Michael Bolton vs The Isley Brothers

The Isley brothers, in 1966 wrote a song called "Love  Is a Wonderful Thing". As did Michael Bolton 25 years later, named "Love Is A Wonderful Thing", published in 1991. The Isley Brothers sued Michael for partially stealing parts of the song. I listened to both of these songs, and i could hear the parts that the Isley Brothers were talking about. It was during the chorus of the song. By the looks of things, the Isley Brothers won the case and were rewarded 5.4 Million dollars, making this the largest reward in history of copyright.
